Residential Energy Upgrade Grants support owners of existing residential buildings within the City of Perth to undertake upgrades that will improve environmental performance, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and enhance climate resilience.
Grants are available for projects in residential strata-titled buildings; and for student, aged and supported accommodation. Projects must relate to common areas or provide communal benefit for residential occupants.
Types of Projects Supported
Upgrades may include one or more of the following:
- Energy efficiency: upgrades to lighting, hot water system, pumps and motors, lifts, air conditioning and ventilation, and including building tuning.
- Electrification: replacement of gas hot water systems, space heating and cooking appliances with an energy efficient electric alternative; electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
- Renewables: installation of solar photovoltaic systems and battery storage.
- Embedded networks and smart meters: are an allowable project cost where part of a larger energy efficiency / electrification / renewable energy project.
- Energy calculations: Contractor’s quotations may include costs for time taken to calculate projected energy savings of upgrade project(s). Projected energy savings will be a key component guiding assessment and approval of a grant under this program.
Types of Projects Not Supported
- Upgrades for individual dwellings (which do not provide a communal benefit)
- Upgrades that do not contribute to a reduction in energy consumption and emissions i.e. like for like replacement.
- Replacements with gas as the primary fuel source (no new gas).
- Administration and management costs by strata managing company, body corporate, building manager or agent.
